He has been involved in risk management, and money market trading activities. In 2000, he assumed the position of fund manager, responsible for managing clients’ money market portfolios. Saleem was appointed as Head of Cash Management at Taquanta Asset Managers on the incorporation of NIB Treasury cash management in 2003.

Ian Anderson

Ian joined Grindrod Asset Management as Chief Investment Officer in September 2009. Prior to that, he ran his own consultancy where his clients included Marriot Asset Management, Fortress Asset Managers (part of the Resilient group of companies) and the Property Loan Stock Association of South Africa. Ian was the Investment Director at Marriot Asset Management from 2002 to 2007, having joined the firm as an Investment Analyst in 1996. Ian has been involved in the management of specialist listed property portfolios for the past 15 years.

Herman Steyn

Herman has been involved in the investment management industry since 1985, having held senior management positions in several established asset management companies. He began his investment management career when awarded a bursary from Old Mutual and after a period at Old Mutual, he co-founded an asset management company.

In 1993 Herman started the first index tracker fund, the Composite Unit Trust, in South Africa. He later sold the unit trust management company to Investec, joining Investec Asset Management in 1995 where he established Investec Asset Management's international fund management capability in Dublin. He was also responsible for the quantitative fund management that included local and international index funds, bonds, derivatives and asset allocation.

In 1998 Herman and Guy Toms founded Prescient Investment Management.

Ronell van Rooyen

Ronell is currently Head of Fund Management. She completed her M.Com in 1994, while working at Credit Guarantee Insurance Company. Her duties were economic research and investment administration.

In 1995 she joined Ginsburg Malan and Carsons where she was responsible for economic and investment research. In 1997 she started at SCMB Securities as a Private Client Advisor. During the next two years she completed the Registered Persons and JSE Membership exams and transferred to the Institutional dealing desk in 1999. She joined Prescient Investment Management in August 2001 as a Portfolio Manager.

Piet Viljoen

Piet  started out as a lecturer at the University of Pretoria, and subsequently joined the Reserve Bank as an economic analyst. He joined Allan Gray Investment Counsel in 1991 as a portfolio manager and moved on to Investec Asset Management in 1995. Piet is the founder and executive chairman of RE•CM and has over 20 years investment experience.

This was followed by a year at Investec Asset Management where she worked as an equity analyst in the financials team and a year at Sanlam Investment Management as a fixed income risk analyst. In 2000, she joined African Harvest Fund Managers as an equity analyst, responsible for Life Assurance, Insurance, Real Estate, Services and Building and Construction.  Dudu is a founding partner of Orthogonal Investments.

Walter Aylett

Walter founded Aylett & Company in 2005. This followed a period at Coronation Fund Managers for whom he had worked for seven years - first as Head of Research and then as Portfolio Manager. Prior to that Walter had been at Syfrets Managed Assets for four years where he had the privilege of jointly managing the highly rated Prime Select Fund with well respected Tim Allsop.

Douw joined Old Mutual Investments in 1991 as an equity analyst, where he spent the next fifteen years. During this time his responsibilities included that of head of industrial sector research and the management of a variety of equity portfolios. During his last five years with Old Mutual, Douw was responsible for the management of all of its value style mandates, including the Old Mutual Value Fund and the Old Mutual High Yield Opportunity Fund. Douw joined Orthogonal Investments as one of its founding shareholders upon its inception in 2007.

Richard is Chief Investment Officer of the Quants business unit at Taquanta Asset Managers. He is accountable for the management of all quantitative portfolios, research of quantitative techniques, and product development. Richard was previously at NIB Quants where he was a senior portfolio manager. He gained his original investment experience in active judgemental portfolio management and research with NIB Asset Management (NIBAM), where he started in June 1996. Richard trained as a Chemical Engineer and started his working life at AECI where he was a Senior Process Engineer. He is also a CFA Charter holder and is a FAIS authorised representative.
